Oh, Give Me a Home.......

Clear blue skies, snow 4 feet deep, big, huge elk standing at the top of the hill on Lower River Road overlooking the most beautiful Valley in all the world -----
Day after day, there are four of the most beautiful creatures the eye can ever see -- standing there at the edge of the hill, trying to find a nibble of food through all the snow! They are hungry and the high country is still buried, so they have found the south slope of the hill, hoping to find a bit of something nutritious! The whole Valley has heard -- and they come every day to see. Lower River Road is congested with onlookers, just wanting to catch a glimpse of these handsome guys!
Today was one of those "Springtime in the Rockies," sort of days -- warm, mist low to the ground and snow that melts nearly as quickly as it falls. I don't know if these boys are weakened by hunger and can't move, or if they are just confident enough in their amazing beauty that they dare to stand while the onlookers gaze at them from below. There are four just west of Farrell's and then another even bigger than these guys just east of Farrell's more in the trees. If you look at Neina's blog, you will see a picture of him. Jason said he is in quite a weakened condition. I hope they find enough to eat to gain some strength and get away from the gawking public and to safety. You never know.......
Two of these boys racks have at least a four foot spread. The other two aren't quite as big - but they are definitely the hunks of the herd!
No matter what - they guys are magnificient and quite a treat for the beholder! Is it any wonder that I love this place so much!

Oh my goodness. How would it be to live in such a paradise. Why don't you invite them to live in the back pasture with the cows this winter. Then they can be fed daily. Can't wait to see all that snow in a couple of days.

I would, gladly, except Dad had figured the hay right down to the last pound, so it would put the cattle on a diet to share hay. Check out Brook Woolstenhulme's blog, if you go through Chelsea's to see the effort of feeding the deer here in the Valley by the DWR. Pretty interesting!

Billie Jo,
I finally got around to posting my pics of the elk. I filled my card so I really only put a few (4) pictures of the elk. Your pics are good to. I didnt get any pics of them with the sun shining. They are beautiful.
