Well, this is NOT Earl writing the quirky things about himself...it is Billie Sue, but that is the first quirky thing --
1. PROCRASTINATION!!! Earl spoke at his Dad's funeral and talked about what a procrastinator his Dad was, but honestly, it would be very, very difficult for anyone to be as big of procrastinator as Earl is. He has got to be the world's worst. When you come to know him as well as Rob and I do, you realize what a manipulator he is to be able to tell you to go do some little thing which will then lead to him doing what needs done. This tactic is to trick your mind that he actually has plans to do something you want him to do as soon as your part is finished. BEWARE!!! It is a procrastination trick to put you off and just make you think he is going to do it soon.
2. PEPSI!!! It is actually the only nutrition that Earl takes on in the summer.
3. The older Earl gets, the more he acts like his Mom/Dad. His Dad used to put a pillow on the floor in front of the furnace vent and cover up with a lap quilt. Earl gets in the recliner, puts his hoodie over his head and covers up with a lap quilt.
4. Earl always wads up a napkin or a paper towel when he eats or after he has washed his hands. It never finds it's way to the garbage. You can always find a used napkin/paper towel lying around by the recliner or on the island.
5. Earl has a different personna in the summer than the winter. In the summer, he sits forward in his old beater truck--sort of round-shouldered, bent over his steering wheel looking for water with all his windows rolled down so he can see better. In the winter, he wears a USU beanie and his wool peacoat, peering out of a little , teeny hole he has scraped that is just big enough to see the road in front of him.
6. Earl LOVES butter. Now, when I say butter, I mean butter! He puts so much butter on his toast that when he lifts the toast to eat it, there is butter on the plate beneath where the toast had been!
Quirky but loveable and I'll keep him!

How much do I love love love this post!!! This is my husband! Just tonight as he is sleeping on the couch I have been walking around the kitchen grumbling about how many wadded up napkins this guy uses and leaves around. Every time we are doing something last minute and we are all stressed out I think, why are we the worst procrastinators ever? And about the manipulating... I have always just thought that he lies to me since he puts me off about everything, and then we NEVER do it. Right now Allen only does the hoody on the couch trick when he is sick, but I guess like father like son. I sure love Earl, I agree he is a keeper! (And I will keep my husband as well!)
So true but still so many reasons to love the guy. He would not pass up one minute in the truck with any grandkid and soon they will all be running around with him acting like wild napkin crumpling butter eating Indians.
Cute post. Well Greg and Earl are definitely related because I also find wadded up napkins all over the kitchen and Greg has bread with his butter. Not the other way around. He even loves butter on his hot dogs! I was a margerine girl till I married into the Averett family and have since converted. I practice moderation though which is way more than I can say for my husband and my children for that matter. There's something very wrong if I don't have little fingerprints in my butter dish.
Those are good quirks! I must say, I was introduced to butter after marrying into this family and I now appreciate the taste of butter in my food. I'm definitely not as much of a butter consumer as Giselle but I at least use butter now. It's fun to hear of these quirks. Everyone else needs to get going on their posts!
I think that many of those quirks are just what make dad who he is, and what makes him so lovable. I would add his tendency to get the grandchildren as wild and crazy as they can get! Again, that is what makes him grandpa and what makes the kids all love him so much.
Ahhh, don't we just love that Dad! He does have some quirks, but I guess we all do. How do I lack the butter gene that everyone talks about? I do love Dad and love all the quirks about him! (Especially procrastination, since I definitely inherited that one!)
Ahhhhhhhhhh...butter! I never knew that Dad did the napkin wadding trick! I do it with paper towels in my kitchen! There are always at least 4 used paper towels sitting around. Noah knows when he makes my toast that he has to put twice as much butter on mine as usual, and I'm still trying to convince him to put butter on his waffles!!!
I love this post, and I love my dad! Thanks for this fun quirky post...
