It's Official! Woodland, Utah!!!!

It happened! It is complete! The deed is done! The five large, looseleaf-sized books complete with census, property descriptions, signature pages, and vesting deeds; the survey done by Epic Engineering with a full description of "Woodland" which includes both Summit and Wasatch Counties; the Qualifying Petition; and the Contact Sponsor and Sponsor Sheet were all successfully submitted on Friday, February 22, 2008 to both Wasatch and Summit Counties!
The Petition was signed by a member of families who first settled in Woodland, that being Elizabeth Lefler, DeLoy Bisel, Sr., John Moon and Phares Gines, with Earl McNeil as the contact sponsor. A recommendation to the Commissioners for mayor and town council was filed. That information cannot be divulged quite yet!
We ended up with 357 people in our town; a total of 2,158.11 acres; and $29,382,940 in taxable valuation! We had signatures of people in agreement of the Petition of 1,432.6 acres and $16,655,139 in taxable valuation. We needed to hit 50% of both acreage and taxable value, so you can see we were well over the percentage needed in each category! The legislature has not yet introduced the new housebill, so we were able to file and meet the requirements of the old housebill. While Wasatch County is very well aware of the requirements to become a town, as they have three pending petitions right now, Summit County does not know the rules and weren't even sure what to do with our petition, besides date it and write the time of filing down. Hurrah!!! We are on our way to becoming WOODLAND, UTAH!!!
I just had to include this cute little picture. Billie Jo, Tess and Mia came to bring me lunch one day at work. Tess and Mia wanted to see the kids out in the hall, so they stepped to the door to peek out. They were both just a little scared and stood with their arms around each other--for strength and support, I am sure. I just thought it was such a tender little scene, that I had to grab my camera and hurry to snap a very tender "sister" moment!

Yeah! I am so happy that all your hard work has finally paid off! I know how much work and effort you have been putting in, and I think you hopefully are ready for a well-deserved rest!

I cannot believe those elk! That is amazing and crazy, and the pictures are awesome. You should submit them to channel 5!

The girls are, of course, so adorable. I miss them so much and I can't wait to see all of you in a couple weeks. You will totally be amazed at how much Jack changes from each time you see him. Love you all!

Hey Aunt Billie Sue sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your comment and congrats on all the work of becoming a town. As to your questions about our elk the DOW is helping toward the west of our town by putting hay out and trying to bait the elk that way. But we are still having alot of problems like most people we bought enough hay for our animals, but the elk eating our supply down pretty quick. Those are some nice bulls by your house. Hope they don't cause to much trouble for you

I have so many memories of Woodland Utah. We used to own Godens knotty pine cabins for years right on the provo. We used to hunt on bench creek and fish the beaver ponds up their and drink a beer at old Leotas place. Now I live in smoggy so california and if I close my eyes and think it takes me back to woodland and oh how much I wish I could turn back time

My mother and father (Ben & Olga Goden) owned the cabins on the Provo river. I spent most of my young life going to Leotas cafe and eating what I thought were the best hamburgers and homemade soup in the world. I loved the dancing on Saturday nights in the old dance hall. I fished the river and beaver ponds and went to Wolf Creek pass to picnic and visit with my parents some friends that were sheepherders. They would cook on the open fire a full meal. Miss all that so much. Love Utah, and love Woodland area.
