Round up at the Crossed Arrows Corral....

"Hey...what's goin' on around here? We're short a few hands, but the cowboy crew is eager to get busy!"

"Hey guys! Here come the critters!"

Our great friends, Mike and Jodi McNulty and Bishop Rod Maxfield, come every year to help round the cattle up. Mike stays through the whole operation to push the cattle in the shoot. He is priceless! He's got a group pushed in and now he's letting his horse have a rest.

Earl, Allen, Tim, Rick and Noah push the little calves up in the shoot so they can have their shots to protect their health and get their ear tags so you know who they belong to.

The little heifers love to flip their ears and show off their new earrings!

The little wranglers had a pretty good day of eating and talkin' cowboy talk!

It is imperative that cowboy wranglers learn to chew on grass as well as eat their lunch!

Our dear friend, Rod Maxfield, went home and got the ponies for the boys to ride. After all was said and done, the little wranglers got to ride horses and prepare themselves to be the future cowboys! That's what friendship and good neighbors are all about...helping you with your work and helping you enjoy a good life!
All good cowboys should be able to eat and wrangle at the same time, while sitting atop your pretty little Appaloosa pony!

Cowboy Luke loved riding this great little pony, which gives him practice to become a big cowboy like Mike and Bishop Rod.

Jack made up a song about cowboys that goes like this....
"Cowboys...cowboys....you are a special cowboy!"
So...it is only fitting he has the opportunity to become a cowboy!

Cowboy Evan gets his turn on the pony!

Eli and Evan spend time in the back of the pick-up just being boys and having a good time!

What could be better than being in the back of Grandpa's pick-up with a stick!I guess the only thing better is....getting a big thank-you kiss from your Dad when he is covered in mud and "stuff " to let you know he appreciates all the wranglin' you've done all day!

"Thank you," to everyone...sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters and neighbors...for helping us get our spring work done!

So I have been laughing the last two days about your little Noah. My dad was putting up the hot wire getting ready for the cows when here comes Noah. He asked him If it was electric wire and my dad told him it was. He goes on to ask if he gets this close, while holding his little hands a few inches apart if it would shock him. My dad told him no. He then asked well what if I was this close, now holding his finger as close to his hand as possible without actually touching it would he get shocked then, my dad explained no he would not get shocked. Noah then asked if the hot wore was on, my dad told him no it was not on and next thing he knew there was Noah on the other side of the fence. Somehow the conversation turned to school and my dad asked him if he was in kindergarten. He explained that he was not because he just missed the deadline. He then went on to tell my dad that he had just taken his kindergarten test. My dad asked how he did and he explained that he did perfect. Noah then informed my dad that his grandpa was moving his cows to bench creek and he got to help move them. My dad asked what his job was during the process and Noah told him it was his job to stand in peoples driveway and then started waving his hands frantically showing my dad how he kept them from going down the driveway. My dad asked if he was scared if they started to come towards him. He then started waving his hands again and said no, because I go like this... Seriously I thought my dad was going to pee his pants laughing. That kid is a crack up... I cant wait to hear what the next conversation entails...

what cute pictures of your little cowboys! how much fun they must be having and how much fun you must be having watching them. Life is great when we watch the little ones do what their dads and granddads did before them.

What fun the little cowboys get to have every spring as we work the cows. I can't think of anything that the boys love more. Thanks for giving my boys the opportunity to spend time "working" and learning alongside Grandpa, Uncles, and cousins. Next year I'll get a little pair of pink cowgirl boots and Liv can join in the fun.

I love the round up. I can't wait another year to do it again! Thanks for making it such a fun tradition and for documenting it so we all get a chance to reflect on it. I know blogging is a chore, but you will be so happy to have your journal/records w/ so many pictures someday!! Love you, mom!

So sad that we missed out on all the farm fun. The farm is more than just a place for the animals to graze and be raised, it is a school for the next generation of farmers. The girls will hopefully be in on the next round. We love the farm life!

No trips to the clinic for stitches, no chainsaw hoof trimming, it almost seemed too easy this year. It really was a very fun family day. We're so glad that our little cowboy gets to have so many fun experiences with his cousins.
