Remenbering...those we love.

We always spent Memorial Day Weekend at the cemetery. When I was a little girl, our family cleaned the cemetery and got it ready for Memorial Day. Mom worked really hard and perhaps the older girls works kind of hard, but I think mostly the three little girls got to play a lot! By time the weekend came, however, the cemetery looked really nice. These days, there are grounds keepers and the work is all done for you and the cemetery looks amazing! Mom and Dad loved to spend time up at the cemetery visiting friends and relatives. It was always a great time to get reacquainted and visit with old friends and family.
Now we set an appointed time and everyone meets at the cemetery. We decorate and again, visit and reacquaint ourselves with old friends and neighbors. We have become our parents and taken over the mantle. The graves looks so beautiful and it really is nice to see people you haven't seen since the previous Memorial Dad and visit with them.
I think it is a wonderful thing to remember those we love and show that love and appreciation by placing flowers and re-establishing family ties with friends and family.
Our kids do the same thing we used to do...bring their little kids and tell them all about Grandpa and Grandma and help them place their remembrances. The grandkids do the same thing we used to do as kids...run from one end of the cemetery to the other and even up on the hill. Being free and having a wonderful family is a blessing in each of our lives.

There is such a peace at the Woodland Cemetery. The hill stands guard over the patrons and the sun, stars and moon take turns shining down and keeping watch. There is always a gentle breeze...sometimes stronger than others. The elk and deer visit ever so quietly and there is just a feeling of reverence and peace. The flags wave in the breeze on the graves of those who have fought to preserve our freedom and rights. I read this week in the Ensign..."We live to die and we die to live again...." What a beautiful concept!

Today, Sunday-June 5th- was the first time this spring that it was good enough weather to eat outside on the deck. We smoked a turkey and the kids and grandkids came and it was another wonderful day. After we ate, we decided to drive up the road and see how much snow there still is. This is at the top of Wolf Creek...elevation 9,450 feet...and there is still more than 5 feet of snow! It is solid packed too! It is hard to think we are just ten miles up the road and there is just a difference!

I think the "water master" has plenty of water this year!

Well when we drove up two weeks ago you couldn't even get up the rd. They must have plowed. I want summer to get here but I am afraid that it will melt all the snow to quickly... good thing we have a boat!

isn't it funny how we have spent our holidays the same way. this is the first year in many that we haven't been home to decorate graves. we always take kfc to jim's parents and have a picnic there and visit with his family. our kids use to roam around that cemetery because it was so quiet and peaceful. some things never change.
