Who will conquer...Man or Beast?

Earl has worked his heart out all summer trying to farm all the leases he has. He gets up at 5:30 am and doesn't come home until 10:30 or 11:00 pm. It isn't actually that he has more to do than he can do -- it's just that so many things haven't worked the way they should. For instance...the water system on the upper church farm has been just one big headache after another. The minute Earl got the kinks worked out of the system, the beaver (plural) decided they should not give up the water they were accustomed to having as their home. Each time Earl gets the sprinklers set up, the beaver dam up the system and the sprinklers shut down. He got permits from the Department of Wildlife and hired boys to help him. He has spent an incredible amount of time tearing out the dams day after day. It is a never-ending story!
So, Earl came up with a plan to build a barrier so the beaver could not dam the water off. The kids all came to help and the men took off with the kids and told the girls to come later.

This is us...hunting for the guys and the kids...but we drove and drove and walked and walked and an hour into the hunt, we couldn't find anyone!
The search continued, but to no avail! We would have quit, but Giselle and Rajko had walked ahead of us and at that point, they were lost too. We kept yelling, "Ca-ca, ca-ca!" (and laughing), but no one seemed to hear us!
We thought Giselle went off the road and on to an obscure path...thus, we all took off too! Soon, we heard Giselle yelling for us, and the fence post pounding, so we sped us our journey through the jungle!
By the time we finally found the guys, they had torn out the beaver dam and were building a fence/ barrier to keep the beaver out.
We are sure hoping that with all this man power, work, time and expense....the plan works!
Tim has the power saw, removing trees.
Allen is yanking the tree out that Tim is sawing! That's what I call determination. Really, without the work of Tim, Rick, Noah, and Allen helping Earl...the task could have taken days--even weeks!
By this time, the air had cooled down and the kids were freezing because they were soaked!
Rajko was very curious and wanted the best view possible!
Giselle, Noah and Rajko are standing on top of the tank...waiting for it to fill now the beaver are fenced out!
Patrice and Evan are happy to have found Allen! Hiking through the jungle in flip flops is not exactly an easy task.
Olivia found Rick and she is plenty happy! It took lots of coaxing from Olivia to convince Eli that he did not have to pick up every rock on our hike.
Billie Jo couldn't have been happier to find Tim and the girls! Good thing she has good backing skills and can back down a very bad mountain road!
Whether the fence really keeps the beaver out or not, Earl and I are just really happy to have such great kids who will go to all lengths to help us out and help Earl accomplish his work. The time we spend together building a strong bond that will last us through the eternities is what we all want. We hope the bonds of love we build will be a good enough barrier to keep out the strong winds and elements that can try to blast through our fence. If we engineer our love, commitment and obedience wisely enough...there is no fierce wind or any wicked element that can stop the flow of eternal love we share.
Then we will continue to climb the path to eternal happiness...together! Thank you family!

What a beautiful and fun-filled post! Every time I see your blog or talk to you about what's been going on up there, a little piece of my heart breaks that we are not there with you, building fences and wonderful memories. Poor Jack is the "city kid cousin" and will not even know how to work on Grandpa's farm! I'm beginning to think that your posts are dedicated to making me move up there! Love you!

Ohh. Well I think we first should get chelsea up here, Jack would love it! So I guess you guys dont have to go to bear lake to have fun. That sounds like a great adventure and I hope it works but in the meantime I think it served a purpose!

Ok, I think I figured out the trick to posting a comment. Not sure why the word verification does not work on our computer. In any event, it was quite the project. But by time we were done, we had built a beautiful animal habitat. In fact, we were all gathered around the fence to see the homosapien gigante (Tim) in his natural environment.

As always, it was very fun for me. I love the farm life more than I could've imagined. I was laughing the whole time and I'm so glad we didn't quit. Well, that Giselle didn't quit while the rest of us whined and had a photo op. So glad you documented it!

MAN. Man will prevail. How could we not prevail when we all work together to get something done. As always, I am so happy to be here and share in these learning/growing/bonding experiences. Thanks for creating so many of them for us. We love them all!

Of course that strong and determined group of men will conquer. With Dad as their leader there is no question. I will choose NOT to wear high heeled flip flops of the next "adventure!" The good times these kids have with grandpa and grandma have are priceless!!! I love country life and can't wait til little Butikofer gets here to join the rest of the gang!

Wow what a hassle! I sure hope that fence works. I couldn't even imagine having to keep up with everything that Earl has to- especially during the summer months. He is one hard working man. I am glad that you have such great children to help him! Oh- and it was sure fun seeing you all at Bill's wedding!
